About Jessica

Jessica Heine (hi-na) is a singer songwriter based in Edmonton, Alberta, Canada. She is a graduate of the University of Alberta with a BMus in classical vocal performance, but although she revels in singing Bach Oratorios and the occasional operatic aria, her real love is folk music and more specifically the art of storytelling through song.  Noteworthy performances include such festivals as The Edmonton Folk Music Festival, and Medicine Hat’s Tongue on the Post Festival, where she was the top selling artist of the weekend.  She has been a three-time finalist at Calgary Folk Festival’s songwriting contest, as well as a finalist at 2007’s Kerrville New Folk Competition in Texas.  In the spring of 2010, Heine was commissioned to write a song for Tourism Jasper, and the song, “Give Me Jasper” has been used in ads for the national park, in a YouTube promotional video and most recently, Heine was invited by the French tourism program Echappées Belles to perform the song live for one of their upcoming episodes.  In the fall of 2010, Heine will be embarking on her largest tour to date, a four-month cross-Canada trek with singer/songwriter Kelly Tschritter.

Her songwriting defies categorization just as her voice defies assumption.” (Lionel Conant-Artistic Director of Fort St. James’ Cottonwood Music Festival)
