Why I'm No Longer Posting on Social Media

Shortly after Christmas 2024, I took a step back from social media, and I haven’t really looked back.

As a musician, I have always felt the pressure to stay “visible” online, but the growing disconnect between what these platforms claimed to offer and what they actually delivered became too great for me to ignore. From an ever-increasing flood of promoted posts and suggested content that had little to do with the people I care about, to the public positions and practices of company CEOs that I did not ethically support, I decided that continuing to contribute to these platforms wasn’t worth it for me.

In the moment, I felt excited to try to maximize my mailing list, and explore other avenues of promoting myself, and my music. I confess that it has now been almost a year and half and that hasn't materialized. That all changes this week, as I am re-upping my website, checking in with my mailing list and taking stock of where I'm at.

Regarding the important thing: music, I’m still writing, creating, and performing, and I will continue to do so. That hasn’t change. What has changed is where I’m choosing to spend my time and where I’m asking people who listen to me to spend theirs.

I didn't delete my accounts or take down old posts. They’re still there if you want to revisit anything, but barring something unexpected, you won’t be seeing any new content from me on them.
